When I first met Deborah, I knew there would be a number of challenges. Having gone through numerous chemotherapy treatments to treat a life-threatening cancer, Deborah\u2019s mouth was bearing the results of chronic reflux and acid attack which destroyed the enamel and caused cavities under the gum line on almost every tooth in her mouth.<\/p>\n

Deborah was concerned that there may not be hope for her. She had a hard time eating due to pain and could not drink because she was so sensitive to hot and cold temperatures. She was embarrassed to smile and could not let go socially. Having a career history as a world-class swimwear model, this was a real trial for her. One of the greatest things I have discovered after getting to know Deborah is her strong will to survive. At the point I met her, she had beat the challenge of cancer, and was determined to recapture the smile that was one of her best attributes during her active modeling career.<\/p>\n

Our clinical challenge was to arrest the extensive progression of decay under her gum line. We decided to remove all of her old\u00a0\u00a0fillings<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0crowns<\/a>\u00a0and resurface each tooth using bonded ceramics. I was able to gain access to the cavities using plastic laser surgery. This also allowed me to\u00a0re-sculpt her gums<\/strong>\u00a0to achieve symmetrical design. This is a basic smile design principle that is often overlooked in many smile design cases.<\/p>\n

Today, you can see Deborah is a different person\u2014no longer is she uncomfortable when chewing or drinking. Most of all, is that Deborah feels she is a more complete person and is able to give to others without holding back because she is so grateful to be able to live another day of life.<\/p>\n
