Aesthetic Metal-Free Bridges

With the latest advancements in dental technology, a missing tooth can be replaced without a metal or metal substructure bridge. Either an implant based tooth or non-metal bridge can be created that will rival nature. There are significant aesthetic advantages to these newer techniques. Take a look for yourself!

Filling the space where a tooth used to be is more than plugging a hole, especially when it comes to aesthetic dentistry. Color is important, but so is the shape and form of the tooth. The goal is to create an illusion of reality so that it is not apparent there was a tooth missing at all. There are several details to consider when correcting a gap:

Spaces don’t only kill a smile; they can also destabilize the bite and allow teeth to drift.

When paying close attention to several aesthetic principles, natural tooth replacement can be accomplished.
  • Gum and bone contours that are healthy. Often, when a tooth is missing, the supportive bone that was around the tooth has disappeared. When this happens, the ridge will appear to be sunk in. To re-capture the original bone structure, the soft tissue/bony ridge must be built up. This can be accomplished with a minor grafting procedure prior to placing the dental bridge or implant.
  • Teeth that appear to emerge from the jaw bone. For a natural appearance, the replacement tooth, whether an implant or bridge, must appear to be growing out of the gum tissue. This is the most important aesthetic aspect in achieving a natural result.
  • Papillae (gum peaks) between teeth. What does this mean? You know you’ve seen it, little black holes between teeth and the gum line that can be traps for food. When the gums don’t fill these spaces food often will. With advanced aesthetic dentistry, these spaces can be redesigned to not only look good but to protect the tooth from unhealthy food trapping, which causes build up of destructive bacteria.
  • Adjacent teeth that are attractive and healthy. It is important to make sure all the teeth blend together. Quite often in smile design makeovers at least the eight, if not ten, front teeth are treated for ideal visual harmony.
