Fresh Breath Concepts

There are many causes of bad breath. Dr. Klim uses state-of-the-art Halometric tests to accurately diagnose the underlying problem and recommend an effective treatment plan.

Bad breath is a physical dilemma that affects a very sensitive part of our lives, our social interaction and relationships. About one out of every ten people are afflicted with chronic bad breath. Often, those that suffer from bad breath are the last to know! It is often loved ones that share the baneful news. Over 90% of halitosis conditions are a result of oral and nasal-related conditions. The lesser percentage of bad breath comes from disease processes in other parts of the body, such as the stomach, liver, and so on.

Bad breath resulting from oral and nasal conditions have more options of relief than in the past. There is hope on the horizon. Halitosis stems from anaerobic bacterial activity that produces volatile sulfur-compounds. The remedy lies in accurate diagnosis as to the type of bacterial activity is in the mouth and nasal passages by use of the Halometer and other selective tests. The Halometer measures the amount of volatile sulfur-compounds present in the breath.

Once a diagnosis is made, treatment may begin. Treatment usually consists of regular hygiene maintenance, recommended home hygiene & tongue treatment, and specially formulated oral hygiene products to help keep anaerobic bacterial activity at bay. Most over-the-counter mouth rinses contain alcohol and can only provide a cover-up to the underlying problem. There are now mouth rinses available that will decrease the population of unfavorable bacteria and that do not contain alcohol, such as OxyFresh, Breath Rx, and Retardex products.

Depending on the severity of periodontal disease a series of 2 – 12 sessions of laser therapy may be recommended. Each session revisits the area treated before and treats a new area until the affected areas have been touched and allowed to heal. Where surgery was indicated in just the very recent past, laser therapy is available at a fraction of the cost of surgery, with less pain, quicker recovery, and less scarring.

High tech Laser: Used to evaporate unhealthy gum tissue and promotes health tissue re-growth.

While surgery may still be indicated for advanced periodontal disease and grafting purposes, intercepting the disease process in the early phases is a much more conservative, effective, and comfortable option.

Our office is located in Santa Rosa, but we welcome patients in from San Francisco, Sonoma County & Bay Area.

Silent… Small… Deadly. The unhealthy population of bacteria that accumulate under the gum line is where the problem all begins.

If it is found that you suffer from the silent gum disease, there are new technologies that can help. Oral hygiene products, such as the Sonicare toothbrush and Sonic3000 Irrigator have been effective for home care. At your hygiene visit, your dentist may recommend the latest conservative gum therapy using the laser.

The laser is used to gently disinfect and evaporate inflamed tissues inside the oversized gum pockets. When the area is cleansed, bacterial activity that causes inflammation and eventual bone loss, is interrupted, giving the tissues a chance to heal. Systematic repeated visits allow the tissues to be disease-free to the point where tissues may even re-attach to the tooth and bring the pocket depth back to a normal to near-normal depth.
